Yes, it was as dramatic as that.
Don't know how it started, but you could see if from the platform at Lansdowne road, with the car fully engulfed and lots of smoke. It was on the southbound side. Took about 15 mins for fire brigade to arrive. There was a northbound DART about 100-200 metres south of it, and a southbound DART at Lansdowne road about 300-400 metres north of it.
I walked towards town, but the rain forced me to shelter at Grand Canal dock.
Couple of things impressed me:
How quickly services resumed - only took about 30 mins. I had assumed they would need a full inspection of the overhead power lines, and I thought the underside/rubber on the level crossing would have been badly damaged.
Also the shell of the car would need to have been physically removed/dragged off the line. The fire looked very intense. Not sure if it was accidental/vandalism.
Anyone got more info? I assume someone will have photo's/youtube footage soon.

It was blocking the southbound track, lots of smoke very little fire

Fire brigade dealt with it quickly, unclear of the power was off but I'd guess so, that would knock out Pearse Sandymount
