Services suspended Dalkey-Bray until furhter notice due to lineside fire at Killiney.

Overhead lines had to be de-energised to allow firemen from Dún Laoghaire fire brigade to cross the track to fight the fire.

Firemen were quickly on the scene following the discovery of the fire shortly after 6.15pm.

Although the fire was not big a large amount of smoke billowed over the line into the sky. At one stage part of the line was obscured by the smoke.

A fire brigade spokesman said that there was no danger at any stage to any nearby property.

Services returned to normal at 7.30 pm.

During their suspension, Dublin Bus accepted Iarnród Éireann rail tickets.

Train services between Connolly station and Rosslare station were also affected for a time. It is not known what caused the fire.

A fire brigade spokesman said that such fires were easily started through carelessness during a period of dry weather.
