South Tipp line fare promotions in conjunction with South Tipp Co Co

A €24 day return fare to Heuston is available (children half price) from all four stations on the line (purchasable from the checker onboard).

A day return fare of €5.90 to Waterford is available from all stations on the line.

Good value.

A leaflet promoting the fares and timetable is available (e.g. at Limerick Jct) and is footnoted "in association with South Tipperary County Council". Credit due to same for their interest.

A poster is also on display at Clonmel station where the building per se is closed. There was a cafe here but perhaps the lease has expired and or it is being kitted out? There seemed to be work going on inside.

Aforementioned promotional fare to Dublin is available via Limerick Jct but it's unclear if the fare is available via Waterford (in spite of the latter having only one connection each way useful for day trippers from South Tipp to the capital).

Leaflet says May 2011 but it doesn't seem to have been mentioned here before so felt it was worth posting.

CIÉ's projection/marketing of rural services, whether bus or rail, always seems to come across as patchy - at best.

Fare won't be around much longer I'm told.

Maybe if they reduced the fares to Clonmel during these promotions it might have worked. Its alright charging €24 to Dublin but charging €52 (is something like that) to Clonmel attracts nobody from the Dublin area to visit Clonmel by rail.

it is very good that this has been done but no one will use it unless they know about it , some advertising is needed !!

We have been able to determine the advertising budget for this promotion and it was a 5 digit sum.

The route apparently is generating more revenue since the discount was withdrawn which again highlights that random discounts are not precise enough to have the desired effect.

Must have went to the most expensive printers in the country!

All that was to be seen of this promotion last month was a poster at Clonmel station and leaflets in some tourist offices plus at Limerick Jct station.

I've always thought that in-house publicity - even mere photocopied sheets is quite adequate for most promotions. Main thing is getting the message across rather than glossy full colour literature.

No adverts in local papers or TippFm. Just a tiny A4 poster in Clonmel station.
