Does anyone know if the VAT reduction applies to food and drink sold on trains?

Because it would seem it hasn't been applied.

VAT onboard trains was always a higher rate than the normal rate in shops/restaurants.

In that case I don't think reduction applies to rail catering (or indeed inflight catering)

Here (http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/vat/rates/rate-changes-jobs-initiative.html) is a list of things that are included and excluded in the new change. There's no specific mention to food sold on rail services so I assume it would be covered by these two

* the supply of food and drink (excluding alcohol and soft drinks) in the course of catering or by means of a vending machine
* hot take-away food and hot drinks

Price of my lunch went up last week, not down...

Should affect intercity but not Enterprise, as there is an exemption for food and drink served on international public transport for immediate consumption.

Rather. Last I checked the plastic sandwiches were going for €4.99 which is nothing short of absurd.
