Chip and Pin roll out

The first three Luas ticket machines got there chip and pin attachments today. This is be rolled out across the entire Luas network

It will mean the end of the annoying restrictions currently in force on credit/debit cards

Edit: Machines with chip and pin are at Heuston stop plus at least one at Connolly

Will the old facilities remain in place for non-chipped cards or will these be refused altogether?

Based on what the RPA told me it is chip and pin and they will remove the current transaction limits as a result of the chip and pin being in place

Was informed by Luas customer service today that the transaction limits will remain in place even with chip and pin

Veolia don't run the machines.

The RPA who are responsible have told us that once the roll out is fully complete and is working reliably the restriction will be lifted

I think what Thomas meant was, what happens if you try to use a card that has no chip in these machines, e.g. an American credit or debit card?

I've always found it a small but disturbing that I can spend well over 70 quid on my credit card without any form of autrhentication on a product that can be used anonymously.

You would get it back if you disputed it as there was no card verification method used. Obviously I am only suggesting doing this if a card is stolen etc.

RPA have now confirmed

The 50 euro limit will be withdrawn for chip and pin cards once the full roll out is complete and stable. The timeline on that is very near future

Non chip and pin cards will be accepted in parallel but with the 50 euro restriction

It appears that the old restrictions are still in place for amounts less than 5 Euro.

To answer my own question, they work unverified as before with one transaction per day.
