South Dublin County Council Environmental Services is proud to announce its seventh annual Eco Week this year in conjunction with South Dublin County Libraries & South Dublin County Council Parks Department.
This week long festival of FREE events aims to deliver an important message, that everyone can play a role in reducing their impact on the environment that it is “Our Environment, let’s protect it!”. The purpose of the week is to focus attention on the environmental issues that face everyone living and working in the South Dublin area. Events are designed to raise environmental awareness and encourage South Dublin residents to change their environmental behaviour in order to reduce their impact on the environment.
Eco Week events are open to everyone from Community Groups to Schools, Householders to Individuals and businesses. All events are FREE and range from exhibitions, workshops, seminars to storytelling and much more to raise awareness of environmental issues and solutions in a fun and practical way.

Red Cow Luas Stop
* Richenda Garland: An exciting introduction to the concepts of environmental science topics such as Natural Resources, Bio Diversity, Energy, Waste, Impact and Pollution with Environmental Scientist Richenda Garland. The workshop ends with a fun energy quiz.

* Eco Fun with Robbie and Rachel: Join in the guaranteed eco art and craft fun that Yvonne O'Neill has in store for you and wait and see how you can reduce, reuse and recycle in a new and interesting way. Yvonne has worked for many years in community art projects and is a pre accredited play therapist. This workshop is for all abilities and combines imagination and art as participants reuse and recycle everyday recyclables and waste to decorate and dress life-size figures “Robbie and Rachel Recycling”. You will see waste in a whole new light!

* Naturally Wild with Dale Treadwell: Dale Treadwell has a unique approach to teaching children and helping them to appreciate the wonders of the natural world. He has appeared on many children's TV shows, and now travels around Ireland, educating children. His interactive practical workshop includes a recycling game and focuses on raising awareness of our local environment including bugs and beasties in and our back gardens and school yards.

* Roisin Raven Storytelling with Carmel Smith: Carmel tells an entertaining and educational story about Roisin Raven and friends who all live happily in the woods. Things take a turn for the worse as Roisin becomes ill. The woodland creature’s investigations lead them to the conclusion that litter and dumping by humans are to blame. Roisin gets better with the help of her friends and a valuable lesson is learned about the effects of littering on wildlife.

* Greenbusiness.ie talk for businesses: Are you looking to make cost savings in your business? Are you ready to improve your Environmental Performance? Then come listen to the greenbusiness.ie team talk about how you can save your business money by registering on greenbusiness.ie. Greenbusiness.ie is a resource efficiency service for Irish businesses and is funded by the EPA under the National Waste Prevention Programme. Once a business has set up an account and started using the online waste and water audit tools they can contact Greenbusiness for a free Resource Efficiency Assessment. The assessment will focus on the consumption of raw materials, water and energy and the generation of wastes. Businesses can avail of up to 7 days free support to review resource efficiency improvements at their premises.
