I was in Pearse St at 19.00, waiting for the 19.13 to Drogheda.
Large crowds were in situ. It turns out the 18.59 to Maynooth had not turned up, as had the following DART failed to turn up. There was complete confusion in the LED displays, as it counted down the Maynooth train, and then it disappeared when it hit 3 mins??
It did the same with the Drogheda service, but it remained at 3 mins. Eventually a late northbound DART arrived.
At 19.15, having no real idea what was actually happening I managed to get an IE employee to leave his cabin at the Exit barriers. He agreed the 19.12 to Drogheda would not be here in 3 mins, per the display. In fact it was stuck inbound at Killester. He also enlightened me that another reason for the delays was the need to move a drunk off an earlier train in Blackrock!
The LED rolling message related to 20 min delays due to leaves on the tracks (note: all northbound DARTs were still delayed up to 30 mins at 21.30 so that was also wrong).
I asked him why CTC were refusing to make any announcement at Pearse Street. He said he realised that, and based on the fact the overhead displays were also wrong, he would ask CTC to make announcements.
In the 30 minutes I stood, there was only 1 PA - in relation to the late arrival of the Maynooth train (some 25 mins late). My own service arrived approx. 15 mins late.
Has to have been one of the worst evenings for a communication (lack of), in the last few months.

Pretty much the same story earlier. I was at Pearse to get the Longford train just after 6 and there was a massive crowd on both north and south platforms and trains / darts were scarce.

Garbled announcements seem to be the norm for Pearse although I did catch at one stage they were awaiting for the arrival of the Gardai. I'm not sure if it was just a Garda who wanted the Drogheda train to be held so he could get home for his dinner or if there was something more seious going on :D as Christy Moore said a long time ago -

'This is heaven, this is hell.Who cares? Who can tell?'

Anyone for the last few choc-ices now? :D :D

That reminds we also had a giggle last night at some poor unfortunate man on the southbound platform who started to rant out loud about how unacceptable this shabby treatment by IR was.

Either he's a long suffering commuter who has finally flipped or he's a newbie and in that case 'welcome to our world' Mr Ranter - going south in more ways than one!
