The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) will begin charging $14 for applications tomorrow. It's mandatory for anyone wanting to enter the USA without a visa (except American and Canadian citizens). Last chance to apply for free at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/ is today; the server is extremely slow probably due to all the last-minute applications. The ESTA is valid for two years or as long as your passport is valid, whichever is shorter, and you don't need anything other than your passport details to apply.
