British army bomb experts have made safe a crude but viable device in south Belfast.
A security alert began shortly after 11am following the discovery of a suspicious object by police carrying out searches in the Fane Street area.
Police went to the scene following a report of suspicious activity.

A controlled explosion was carried out on the device, which was found near the railway line.
The Enterprise train services between Dublin and Belfast was disrupted as a result of the alert, with passengers being bussed between Lisburn and Belfast.
