View Full Version : When is Broombridge going to close?
I think passenger's tolerance of this station went way beyond acceptable a very long time ago what with the constantly wondering whether it's your turn to have a brick shoved through your window. Why won't IE close this really hellish station? It's not really a station at all but a nerve center of an area that seems not even under state control. The GardaĆ* are frightened to go near it and I can't blame them. I wonder what the tourists think when they see the horses and mopeds on the formally cobblestoned platform (which was gradually and painstakingly ripped up by thugs to hurl at passing trains). The station is dangerous and should be closed IMO.

The station is remaining open. The arrival of the Luas at Broombridge will change matters http://www.dublinluasbroombridge.ie/
From a practical point of view the station is actually not the least used in Dublin
Closing the station doesn't really help, the stones will still rain down

I was there recently of an evening. Yes, motorbikes and horses, but no stone throwing.
On a previous occassion, there were about 10 young teenagers loitering between the canal and the platform, under the ramp. At least one stone was thrown at the train as it pulled off. As I crossed the bridge, two gardaĆ* (Community GardaĆ* from Cabra) were walking down the ramp and they dealt with them.

Broombridge has actaully calmed down a lot since the early 90's. I used to take the Friday evening Sligo train every couple of weeks back then and almost every time a stone would whack the car I was in.
Most weeks the skangers managed to put a window in somewhere on the train. It is nowhere near as bad these days - its been a good few months since I can remember an impact at Broombridge.
That being said, it didn't take them long to take the station apart when it was slightly upgraded a few years back.
