Luas is taking part in the first International festival of Photography with Artwork displayed at selected stops in Dublin city centre during the festival.
Selected works will be on display at The Point, Jervis, Smithfield and Heuston stops on Luas Red Line and St. Stephens Green stop on Luas Green Line from Thursday July 1st to Sunday July 11th.
The Festival will be celebrated at over 30 venues across Dublin city centre, most within a few minutes’ walk from a Luas stop, making Luas the perfect way to get to the PhotoIreland Festival.

PhotoIreland Festival | Dublin | July 1st-11th 2010
A gaping hole in the Irish cultural and events landscape is set to be filled, as the inaugural PhotoIreland festival pours forth a torrent of photographic and artistic talent. Joining a plethora of high-profile photography festivals held in cities throughout the world, Ireland’s first international festival of Photography will be celebrated from1st-11th July at over 30 venues across Dublin city centre.
An exciting programme of more than 25 exhibitions from Irish and International photographers, present a rich variety of style and format from artists such as kennardphillipps, Giorgia Fiorio, David Farrell, Sean Hillen, Renhui Zhao, Debbie Castro, Ethna O'Regan, Emer Roberts, and Glen E. Friedman. Alongside ten days of educational workshops, portfolio reviews, open discussion and live events; PhotoIreland promises new ways of seeing, understanding, participating and enjoying the rich photographic and artistic culture which Ireland has to offer.
In an effort to engage and encourage the amateur enthusiast as well as the professional, PhotoIreland will also host OpenCall 2010, an open call for work resulting in an exhibition at The Complex Smithfield. An online gallery will also be active throughout the festival. The vibrant studio space D-Light in Dublin 1, will also be hosting a participatory exhibition entitled the Homeless Gallery, running from the 4th July, giving anyone and everyone an opportunity to publicly exhibit their work.
While Ireland has a strong Photographic tradition and enjoys international recognition thanks to its past and contemporary practitioners, there is to date no major event in Ireland that recognises and celebrates the importance that Photography in our culture. PhotoIreland aims to create an internationally recognized event, attracting cultural tourism while promoting the photographic arts at home and abroad; cultivating a deeper understanding of visual self-expression within our society. Already with the support of international photographic organisations such as the New York Photo Festival, the Swiss Foto Fundation and Foto Espana, PhotoIreland will develop these channels to export Irish visual culture bringing it into the international sphere.
The festival will grow nationwide within the next few years, building long-lasting relationships both nationally as well as internationally, and recognizing the work of artists, curators, private and public galleries throughout Ireland. A much needed positive beginning, PhotoIreland will be putting you in the picture July 1st-11th 2010.
