View Full Version : Expansion of Ticket Collection Facilities

As of today, every ticket machine at every main intercity station will be able to both sell tickets and collect a reservation. Hopefully by the weekend every station with a ticket machine will offer collection as well as sales

No more queuing at Connolly, this will also enable a much wider range of destinations and allow tickets to be collected anywhere there is a ticket vending machine. So Sligo and Rosslare line passengers will have access to cheap online deals in the coming weeks.

All ticket machine issued tickets will work the barriers now
You can directly enter the booking reference to collect without a credit/debit card

Rail Users Ireland continue to work with Irish Rail to expand the range of tickets available from ticket machines and to make the machines easier to use, there has been much progress in recent months.

Now all we need is for the reservation system to actually allow booking from any station with a machine to any other station.

Mark, will that include Midleton/Carrigtwohill/Little Island?

As of today you can collect from any station which has a ticket vending machine countrywide, the booking system list has been revised

The ability to book between any two stations with ticket machines is still not in place yet.

The booking system list has not been revised; I can't select to collect a ticket at Sandymount which has the ticket collection option on the TVM as of this morning.

I'm told the collection list will have every station with a TVM on it today

The software is still rolling out as a type

The old (green) ticket collection machines are currently off-line.

The security number is 3 digits plus a 7/8 digit reservation number.

The collection list has been expanded. You can now collect, but not book, tickets from Midleton, Enniscorthy, and Sixmilebridge.

So how does one actually book a ticket in order to collect it?

I'd love to order a DART ticket for June online and then pick it up. I can't see anything on irishrail.com about how to order a ticket though.

I've created an account on the site but still don't see anything about ordering tickets (when I click on the Reservations tab it just says "You have not ordered any tickets with Iarnrod Eireann yet.")

Any insight would be appreciated!

You can only book single and return journeys in which part of the journey is by intercity service. Not all combinations are possible currently, this list is to be revised shortly in light of the expanded collection facility.

If you want a monthly ticket, the ticket machine can already issue them, you select the zone option tab and select from there

That's brilliant, I didn't know that. Cheers Mark!

Well done Irish Rail. Was very impressed earlier in the week to book an Inter city return online and collect it at my local DART station that evening.

I wouldn't have known about this option if I hadn't seen it mentioned on here. I might have seen my DART station in the list, but would have assumed it was a mistake and couldn't possibly work.

What I'd really like to know is when intercity tickets originating from or going to a DART/Commuter station will become available.

Its a fares matrix problem. Being looked at I'm told

Just an update on this - when you book you can nominate a DART station to collect the ticket at. However in my experience it is possible to collect from a TVM at a different DART station than the one nominated. I suspect the nomination of a collection point is more for users so that they don't try and collect from a station that doesn't support collection.

Exactly, you can collect from any ticket machine, anywhere. The list exists solely to show where collection is possible. Irish Rail confirmed this to us a while back when a issue arose on a booking

Despite not being on the list currently, ticket collection works fine at M3 Parkway and Dunboyne
