Following the unfortunate events at boards.ie it is timely to remind all forum users of sensible precautions
1. Never use the same password as your email account for any other purpose
2. Don't use a dictionary word as your password
3. Try to use digits and unusual characters e.g. !@£$%^&*( in your password
4. Use both upper and lowercase
5. At least 8 characters
We are monitoring the outcome of boards.ie's investigations and will take steps to match any measures taken. Due to past issues we disabled most of the ajax related functionality, indeed we run vbulletin in an unmodified form with many services/features switched off which reduces risk.
Even with the data within the database it is extremely difficult and time consuming to get someones password, and if you obey the rules above you can rest easy if the worst happens.
We do not store membership data, eg address, name etc online, its stored offline
