Full DART and Commuter services resumed by Press Office

DART and Commuter services between Sydney Parade and Connolly have resumed following an earlier electricity power fault.

The fault had affected signalling systems. Some minor delays are resulting.

Iarnród Éireann apologises for the inconvenience caused.

This is a TOTALLY BULL**** EXCUSE

A full diesel generator backup system is in place at all signalling installations on the DART line which can be switched in remotely. IE screwed up here by not switching over to the backup or most likely the backup failed to work due to lack of maintenance.

This shouldn't have happened even with total ESB power failure the system was and is designed to stay working

Pearse signalling streches from north of Sandymount so no excuse for it not being served

I received my EUR2 refund for the 120 minute delay that evening - Bray to Balbriggan Annual ticket, divided by 480 journeys, single part of the journey = 100% discount
The letter also advised the following:
There was an ESB power failire in the Sandymount/Pearse area. This caused major problems in all surrounding stations. Our emergency generators kicked in, but due an other underlying problem with the signal system in the Tara Street and Lansdowne Road Stations locks on points did not correspond. As a reault all Dart and Subburban Rail services were curtailed between 18.55 to 20.55 hours.

I think the amount of the refund was a joke. Having made my own way to Pease st, I got in a taxi to Connolly which cost EUR5, and then had to wait an hour there.

After decades waiting IE now admit they screwed up and that the systems should have been able to cope. BTW its 50-50 whether it the generators actually fire up since maintenance is not quite what it should be

Would you have been given that explantation unless we had made it clear that IE had a backup generator system ?? Last time the point locks went crazy they sent people out to clamp them in the normal position would have taken only 20 minutes to sort Tara Street out

The signalling equipment does not behave differently when its on the generator
