So each week I get a ticket that covers my dart/luas/bus/train travel, specifically In the morning I get a train to heuston, can travel via luas or 90 bus to connolly and then get a dart to dun laoghaire (it's a bitch of a commute)

Now here''s my problem, I've recently been finding that it's quicker to get the 90 bus up to custom house, cross the street to tara and get the dart from there, can cut around 15 minutes off my journey.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows if tickets like mine are actually valid for this this type of trip, I assumed that the ticket was valid from any station between connolly and dun laoghaire since in the past the ticket had worked at tara street and even grand canal dock, but it only works like 50% of the time, the rest I have to flash my ticket at the inspector, but I thought that was normal since it doesn't work at connolly a lot either.

Another thing that confused me was a couple of weeks ago I decided to go into town and get off at pearse, the ticket didn't work so I had to show it to the guy who then started giving out about how it was ONLY valid for conolly. I explained to him that it worked at tara most of the time and he quickly changed his mind and told me it would work at tara as well since the 90 bus goes from there too. The really confusing part was when i said to him "surely it should be good for a single trip for any station between connolly and dun laoghaire" he replied with "it should but it doesn't"; I stood there trying to figure that out for a while but still don't get what he was trying to say, it should but it doesn't? O-kay?

I also heard from someone on boards.ie that connolly, tara and pearse all count as the centre which would lead me to believe my ticket should be valid in all three, though the "invalid station" or "invalid route" are errors I get 75% of the time when using any station but connolly.

so if anyone understands how ticket validity works or should work (but doesn't :D ) please explain it to me, should I be able to travel from tara or is it just the crappy ticket machines messing me up? thanks!

P.S. sorry for the length, I tend to over explain things :p

If you are travelling on one of these

1079

Rail + Luas + Bus Adult Monthly €175.00

The ticket is valid on all Luas services, all Dublin Bus services except Nightlink, 747,748 and Dublin Port and all trains within the circle formed by Hazelhatch Maynooth, Ballbriggan, Howth and Kilcoole.

If the ticket simply states say Newbridge - Dun Laoghaire and next to the price is endorsed I.F.S. or 'Valid on Bus/Luas' then it is valid on the 90/91/92 bus and also on the Red Luas between Heuston and Connolly.

It is a weekly ticket and therefore is valid for any combination of journeys between the printed destinations, so you can do Blackrock Lansdowne Rd, Sallins Cherry Orchard or Abbey Street to Heuston.

There are problems with the ticket turnstiles, there are software bugs which are being worked on, if you let us know where you start your journey, if you buy from a booking office or TVM and the cost of the ticket we can work out the ticket code and get the crew in Irish Rail to sort it out

If you are going to stick at that commute, look into getting an annual ticket through the taxsaver scheme, www.taxsaver.ie talk to your HR department about making the arrangements

Yeah it would be the second type of ticket that say I.F.S beside the date, what does I.F.S even stand for? just means the same as Valid on Bus/Luas I take it then? I always wondered how the ticket inspector on bus/luas could tell my ticket was valid for luas/bus travel :D

I suspected that this type of travel was valid so thanks for the confirmation.

Who would it be best to contact with the ticket info, info@railusers.ie? or mail irishrail directly?

IFS is includes feeder service.

IFS is the agreed code that Luas ticket checkers look for when they check rail tickets to ensure they are valid

Email in at info@railusers.ie, start station, destination, cost and if you know the 3 digit code which appears on the bus validator. If the ticket is booking office issued or TVM issued would help

Can't promise a quick fix, but we do have excellent contact with the people in charge of the whole ticket barrier, tvm, smartcard situation.
