We understand that the 4 track section from Hazelhatch to Cherry Orchard will be brought into service as part of these works.

Route Planner shows bus transfers from Heuston to:
Thurles for Cork, Limerick and Tralee; Cork has a 2 hourly service
Portarlingtion for Galway, Westport
Carlow for Waterford.

The closure extends all way the to Thurles - long way from the 4 track section! Perhaps work in being done elsewhere as well.

Notice has disappeared off front page of the website, though as noted the online timtable shows bus transfers. Considering the closure is happening this weekend, IR would do well to put the notice back up on the front page.

Its certainly going ahead this weekend

The latest is the up fast track, the outer track on the north side of the line will go live next Monday, the current up track will be removed from service.

The new signalling should make a huge difference for Dublin bound services as the gap between trains will reduce from the current 5-7 minutes to 3-4 minutes

Hi Mark,

Are they going to relay the current up track once it is taken out of service?

No idea, though it is possible. However such work will not cause cancellations and so on as the 4 track sections is in place

The IE website has a load of General News items on its homepage. Some of these relate to travel to a world cup match in France or to things like the closure of a level corssing in Co Clare on a line which has no rail service. Right at the bottom, is a piece on the very major disruption to services out of Heuston next weekend: you really have to look hard to notice it.

Major disruptions should get more prominent treatment, as is done in the case of the Malahide collapse.

There was a notice, its gone missing :D

There was a flyer on the tables of most trains out of Heuston last weekend with full details, just a pity it didn't have any dates on it

Ballybrophy, final works on the new points
Track relaying between Portlaoise and Portarlington

There are other works ongoing as well

As of 9am to-day (Nov 2nd) the IE website has a prominent notice of disruptions at Heuston "this weekend".

Great, how they had a totally obscure notice when it was needed a week ago, and now that the work has been finished, they have a prominent and misleading notice. As least they are consistent (or consistently incompetent).

It hasn't made any difference to timings so far - the 0918 Newbridge-Heuston was it's customary 10 minutes late into Newbridge.

The train went on the new up "fast" track but I guess it is speed limited at the moment because the train wasn't going very fast at all. However the ride on this track is a lot smoother.

Mark Gleeson

The new fast track is up and running, the problem is trains arriving late into Hazelhatch due to the speed limits beyond Newbridge

The time from a non stop train passing Hazelhatch till a full green signal is under 3 minutes (60 seconds for yellow, 120 seconds for a double yellow), in the past it was upwards of 5 minutes.

The new track is subject to speed limit, I think its 75mph for the first few weeks while it finally settles then it will be full 100mph up on the previous 90mph. There is also a 25 mph limit at the interface point at Cherry Orchard, that will be 60mph within a week or so once the transition rails are welded up.

Its very smooth alright

The second up track is complete but blocked off, probably to allow the crossovers at Hazelhatch and Adamstown to be completed

Ok that's good to know. It will be nice when full advantage of it can be taken.

On a related note, is there any sign when the weekend works out of Heuston will end?

Mark Gleeson
04-11-2009, 15:17
Sadly not, though there is only one really nasty set to come when the new points for the outbound junction at Cherry Orchard and the junction outbound at Hazelhatch are put in, that will be a Friday eve - Sun afternoon size gig.

Most of the hassle last weekend was the signalling system cutover, which is now done
