I always thought that those things at the LUAS stops which tell you when a tram was due were connected to the trams. Are they? I ask because on Saturday in Heuston the board was telling me that the next tram was 3 mion away and there it was coming down the hill. It never changed to due and in fact it was still saying 3 mins to arrive as we were pulling off.

Is is there an actual timetable? I thought they were supposed to leave 3 or 4 min apart and therefore they left at a time automaticly 3 or 4 min behind the one ahead?

It regularly will sit at Due for ages even with no tram in sight

Surprisingly the DART displays are better for accuracy not to mention readability much bigger displays

Something as simple as a clock is missing from the Luas platform

For most people using the Luas, the freqency of the service means they dont need a clock. They're not aware of a timetable (is one even published?), just that there will almost always be a train in a few minutes. What does a clock serve in those circumstances? It's not like the Dart where missing one train might mean a 20+ minute wait for the next one.

20 minute timetabled gaps are on the red line

Before 7am Weekdays, before 8am Saturday and before 9am Sunday after 10pm Saturday and 9pm Sunday

A clock is a basic requirement, what do you do when the display says a 20 minute delay board sits there telling you a tram is coming in x minutes at least Irish Rail reprogrammed the DART system to replace x minutes with Delay if the due time number remained constant for more than a certain threshold

OK, so am I right in saying that there's no little "thing" on each LUAS tram broadcasting its position to the next stop thus telling me when it's coming?

Maybe, if there is, it just wasnt working on that tram, and the time was telling me of the next one?

OK, so am I right in saying that there's no little "thing" on each LUAS tram broadcasting its position to the next stop thus telling me when it's coming? Each tram has a transponder which is interrogated every time it passes over a loop in the road so the system knows where it is, it does rely on a lot of gizzmos to know what is going on, the DART system is latched onto the signalling system and requires no on train equipment

Maybe, if there is, it just wasnt working on that tram, and the time was telling me of the next one? Then it wouldn't be moving through the traffic junctions

Problem is the board goes to due way before a tram is even in sight, try Abbey Street the tram is still between Busaras and the loop line bridge, the DART system will only trigger zero when the train is physically present thought when starting from a terminus it can get confused

I don't know if it's just different management etc. but the Luas system is a thousand times more reliable than the PIS on the DART.

I can honstly say that in the few months that I had to use the Luas, its PIS rarely if ever went wrong.

The DART on the other hand seems to be wrong/malfunctioning more than it's right! I woudln't like to be relying on it as a tourist or someone who had visual problems!!!

Just to prove the Luas platform displays are screwed up

Last night Connolly 17:37 I head down to the left side platform Connolly the display says next tram this side and says Tallaght 5 min

Great no rush so I head down the steps at normal pace, take my smartcard out and wave it, as my back is turned the doors close and the tram leaves

The tram had Red Cow as its destination on the back when it cleared the station

Work that out
