View Full Version : Tell me they are not planning this !
I heard today that for some bizarre reason irish rail plan in future on trains disappearing off the status screen minutes before they depart to combat people running up to the trains as the doors are closing !
Has anyone heard this ?
Surely they cant be planning this ?

Well, as it is, platform gates are meant to close 2 minutes before departure time. I think what you heard may have been over stated.
However, transport runs for those that wait, it doesn't wait for those that run. No point in delaying X hundred people because one is late.

Fair point victor but what i was told was it was in accordance with this but they are planning this as three or four minutes before departure
I can see how this will work, in the usual Irish Rail manner.
The trains will be removed from the screens 3 or 4 minutes before the scheduled departure time, regardless of how late the train is actually running, leaving passengers with even less information.
The same happens at the moment with the comically titled real-time system for the DART - once the scheduled time has passed, the train is removed from the list, even if it's running ten minutes late.

It is a bit of a silly 'IE fix-it' solution. Fewer would be running if the services were a bit more regular.
At Connolly there's not a lot you do in terms of closing platform gates - I don't think making trains disappear from the schedule is the solution. At other stations the 2min rule is fine imo.
They train should be on the list until it physically closes its doors.

Fantastic...in Heuston people find out what platform they are on minutes before the train is due to depart...so if times are removed from screens 3/4 mins before they depart people wont even have been given the courtesy of knowing what platform the train is on
and they wonder why people still drive in Dublin city centre!!!
